Nivatakavachs-annedots and beings similar to them under other names were not the unique population of the Oligocene epoch. According to myths of Nahua and Aztecs, after the Eocene- Oligocene сatastrophe the most part of the former population of the Earth "has turned to monkeys". It could mean that by miracle escaped "people" began to live in wood and to hide on trees, reminding the behaviour of monkeys. Though, probably, they indeed degraded to such level that they had turned to primacies.
In the beginning of the Oligocene epoch the reasonable beings reminding people (white gods and demigods - adityas, gandharvas, etc.), and snakemen continued to live on a land. However, in the beginning they, apparently, were very less.
According to the most ancient Sumer myth "About the Mount of Heavens" and the Akkadian-Babylon poem "When above" when the Earth was plunged into darkness (there was not the sky and stars), there was no life on it or nearly so, and its surface was covered with waters of boundless ocean, in some part of the globe characterized in the legend as the world mountain, the gods of Nammu, Anu (also An) (Sky) and Ki (Earth) had created suitable conditions for life where they had lodged together with the numerous descendants - gods and younger gods - Annunaki headed by Enlil and Marduk (it is possible, this was the same person).
Attention! I repeatedly noted in my works, how difficult to date ancient legends. In my later works, written after the typography of the book "Earth before the Flood - the world of sorcerers and werewolves" and this section (which is the final part of the book), I attributed the events of the myth of "The Mountain of Heaven", the poem "When above " and Japanese legend about the mountain Onogoro, described above, to the turn of the early and middle Miocene (15.9 million years ago). These Sumer-Akkadian legends almost differ nothing from a Japanese legend about the building of Onogoro Island (or Onogorozima) by god Izanaki (Izanagi) and goddess Izanami which they had transformed into a median column of the Earth or a mountainous cone. Then they had placed the heavenly bridge at its top around which the whole world began to rotate.
Myth "About the Mount of Heavens", poem "When above" and myth about the Onogoro Island building have something in common with the Indian legend about Shvetadvipa (Shvetadvip) or White island where adityas, gandharvas and, possibly, vidyadharas, charanas and siddhas located after the Eocene- Oligocene catastrophe and the immersing of a considerable part of (Svarga, Jambudvipa) under water. According to some data, this island was in area of modern desert Gobi or in the Arctic region.
In my work "Battles of ancient gods" I have taken arguments in favour of northern place of Shvetadvipa and have assumed that it could be any island remained on a place of raised sites and ranges of Hyperborea on the northern pole, which was described in "Vishnu-purana", "Bhagavata Purana" (or Shrimad Bhagavattam), "Yoga-sutra" and other Old Indian texts. This island could coincide with world mountain of Meru (Sumeru, Hara of ancient Iranians, Kuenlun Shan of Chineses, Onogoro Island of Japanese and Culhuacan ("starhill") of Aztecs). Means, after the Eocene- Oligocene catastrophe reasonable life had revived on a small raised site in the north, possibly, around the northern pole. On it at first "heavens had been separated from the Earth" (probably due to creation of any artificial screen by gods) and suitable conditions for life had been created.
Attention! Now I date the time of "raising (of) heaven" and "separation of heaven from earth" by the Early and Middle Miocene boundary (15.9 million years ago) (read here). At the same time, the legend about the White Island or Svetadvipa really describes the period of life of the white gods after the Eocene-Oligocene catastrophe.
On this raised place white gods and demigods (heavenly or winged Annunaks, on terminology of Sumer legends) found a shelter and according to the myth "About the Mount of Heavens" they had occupied "mountain" top. And also serpentine gods or demons (underground Annunaks, on terminology of Sumer legends) found a shelter and according to the same myth they have located at its foot. Gradually population of Shvetadvipa increased. There children, grandsons, great-grandsons of Annunaks were born … Comparison of Annunaks to the Indian and Japanes deities gives the grounds to consider that heavenly Anunnaks were gandharvas and apsaras (the Tribe of goddess Danu or the Danu people, elves), and underground Anunnaks - mostly, snakemen - the newcomers of a semiwater-semiterrestrial way of life. Apparently, both adityas and snakemen (Enki-Susanoo- Tsukuyomi) were gods led by Enlil.
Through many thousands or millions years when the sun had again begun to shine over other world, and life had revived on the all Earth,
(Now I date this event by the boundary of the early and middle Miocene)
gods had occupied other parts of our planet and had built there cities and "skyscrapers". The city of Nippur was one of them - located "in the centre of the Earth" in which Enlil had found a haven. According to the Chinese and Japanese legends, white gods (adityas, gandharvas, etc.) had made settlements in East China (Fusi), and snakemen- newcomers - in Asia on place of modern Japan (Susanoo and his descendant Okuninusi).
The China was ruled by Legendary Chinese master Fusi and his "sister and wife" the goddess of the Earth Nuwa who was represented in the form of semiwoman-semisnake "with the human white face, as if covered with powder", women-frogs or any snail beings. It was interdynastic marriage in which so different beings had united for the great purpose (of joint struggle against daityas and danavas or management of the great territory).
Having lodged in China, Fusi had taught its population to hunting, fishery, agriculture, domestication of animals and cooking for fire. He had given to "people" marriage establishments, writing, music. During this period so-called "people", or to be exact snakemen, dragons-luns were the basic population of China. They were rather various - scaly, winged, horned, unhorned, similar to a dragon of various colouring with a mane and without it, with a head of a horse and a tail of a snake and - and they lived on the Earth, in water, air and underground. One of them ate only vegetative food, others were omnivorous.
The part of luns, according to A.Mospero, corresponded to Indian and Buddhist nagas. The second part of them related to winged many headed maruts, rudras. The third part, apparently, did not concern at all reasonable beings, and was something like pets. Most likely, among Chinese luns there were snakemen - newcomers arrived on our planet in the end of Eocene era. And their role was great enough in Ancient China, to what their titles testify: Guan-de (Lun Van) - the master of East sea, Guan-li- master of Southern sea, Guan-zhun - Western sea and Guan-tze - Western sea, and also ability of dragons to send floods.
About high position of snakemen of semiwater-semiterrestrial way of life in the Oligocene era we can see in Japanese and Sumer legends. They tells about related links between water demon of Susanoo and solar goddess Amaterasu (they ostensibly were the brother and the sister), about residing of Susanoo and Enki on "plain of the high sky" (the Meru mount), and also a birth of posterity from Amaterasu and Susanoo.
At first Susanoo and then long time his descendant Okuninusi ruled Japan (it is more true, the country in the east of Asia the part of which was Japan in the Oligocene era.
According to myths of Indians Hopi, in the Oligocene epoch (the First world of Tokpela) on the Earth there were appeared first huge reasonable multiarmed insects (more truly, jointed-armed), created on an image of the great goddess - Spider Woman- Kokyanwuhti. Myths of the Maya, Hopi and archeological excavations in Peru allow to assume that they occupied North and South America, dividing it with snakemen (their representative was the dragon-tempter Katoya with a large head, Hopi legend) and, in the second half of the Oligocene era, with daityas and danavas (which representative was Lavaihoya, Hopi legend). Apparently, similar beings had appeared at the same time in Japan, India and Europe where they were called rakshasas, nairitas and hecatoncheires.
As to multiarmed gods everything is foggy and vaguely. If they really were insects (or jointed-armed) as they are called by legends of Indians Hopi, they could disappear from the Earth absolutely completely, without having left any material evidences of their existence, and it is almost impossible to find their remains (unlike remains of humanoids or dragons which are known much in fossil layers). If they also were giants as they are described by legends, they should live on the Earth only during those periods and in such places, when and where there was the minimum gravity caused by fast rotation of Earth or by its interaction with any other big heavenly body, for example, of the Moon. Or, as some researchers consider, it was Venus when Earth and Venus formed double planetary system.
Occurrence of huge multiarmed beings in the Oligocene epoch and described in the Chinese and Japanese legends a wide prevalence of various dragons and monsters of the giant sizes during the same time, and also formation of giants race due to marriages of humanoid gods and demons with snakemen say that Earth rotated quite quickly in the Oligocene epoch. Probably, it had caused to preservation of a water-steam cover above air cover in its atmosphere and longevity of all inhabitants of that time.
Legends of Indians Hopi narrate that multiarmed people-insects on their way of life a little differed from divine adityas. They very much made thrifty use of the nature and biosphere and strictly watched ecological equilibrium observance. Multiarmed ancestors of people could communicate with each other in telepathic way and "talk" to animals. By language (words and the church chanting creating vibrations) they converted biosphere in the necessary direction. Apparently, for this reason they were considered as great magicians and possessed with gift of were-one making, and also they could become invisible.
